Globe Trotting for Animation

Place’s I’ve been in the International Animation World.

.

MIPtv (2010/03)

MIPtv Cannes, France.

MIPtv is the best place to buy, sell and learn about anything and everything to do with the global broadcast industry.  There are 1.500 exhibiting companies from 52 countries on 21,000 square meters of exhibition floor.

I had an amazing time in 2010 when I  went to MIPtv.  I sat down with massive names like MARVEL, TOONBOOM, GAUMONT-ALPHANIM,ATOMIC CARTOONS,SKYWRITERS,TELETOON, NELVANA and many more!!  With up to six meetings a day I kept very busy with the worlds best in the industry.

After meeting with Gaumont-Alphanim showing them the showreel that consisted mostly of mine and Rudolph Boonzaaier’s work and a nudge by ToonBoom’s President and CEO Joan Vogelesang we brought home 13 episodes to prepare and animate on the 52 x 13 minute series “The Green Squad“.

It was such an amazing trip and I wouldn’t swap it for the world!!

I took Jayne with me and we had such an amazing time! It was freezing, there were squirrels in the parks and the locals thought I was an ass%$# for shouting at a hobo for asking for money.

Ha ha ha we even had a woman laugh at us because I asked her while walking around the beautiful town in Canada where it wasn’t safe to walk.  She didn’t understand the question.  Being South Africans and having being mugged (myself once and Jayne three times) we wanted to know where in the city we shouldn’t walk.  Needless to say once the woman figured out what we were asking she had a good chuckle.

Other than the weather Jayne and I both agree that we would live in Canada, it’s beautiful and yes, the people really are friendly there. Ha ha ha one of the guys at one of the cafes asked us where we were from.  We told him South Africa and he got soooooo exited that he asked “The next time I come to South Africa and visit you can I ride a Kangaroo!?” Jayne and I giggled and said “Sure! No problem”.  Ha ha love it!!
